FRIDAY, August 12th — LAX to Indianapolis to resume our cross-country road trip in the Winnebago Tour Bus. Off to a great start. After two and a half months in storage, she started right up, and the Jeep did too — yeah! Down the street a few blocks and we’re hooked up for the night. Saturday: trip to the grocery store to stock the fridge, and off to Portage, Indiana and our Chicago base for a few nights. Oh dear, it’s right next to Gary, Indiana — and that’s not a good place to be. Oh well, we’re set up, and we’re off to the windy city on Sunday.

Sunday: took the side roads into the City — the decline of the steel mills in Gary, Indiana really took its toll in this area. But Chicago — wow! We hit it on a beautiful sunny day and loved everything about it. The architecture, old next to new, Millennium Park, the Chicago River, shops, restaurants . . . all awesome on this particular day.

Loved our visit with our best buddy, Jerry Riley’s kids, Linda and Jackie in Chicago. Linda is a partner in the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis and her husband Dennis works there as well. Their 12,000 sq. ft. home in Lincoln Park is over the top, and we enjoyed staying with them. Jackie and John also live in Chicago and we had a great visit and a fabulous dinner. Enjoyed talking with four of the six grandkids — two of whom are off to college! Wow, time flies.
